Meeting with and healing the wounded parts of yourself will inevitably have you grow. There’s a point on our healing journey where many of us get stuck. It’s not because you’re actually stuck, but because you’re invited to learn a completely new skill and shift out of identification with parts of your ego mind that you’ve been looking at the world from, for a long time. Because here’s the trick: You won’t be able to heal your wounded parts from the protector parts that have kept them in the wound.
Many clients show up to this work saying “I’ve done A LOT of work”. Years of therapy, self-help books, inventorying, self-awareness, meditation… Usually, what they have spent most of their time doing is the work their mind thought they were supposed to do – not the work that will actually shift their inner world.
They have spent the majority of their time in the “awareness” part of the journey. Identify, analyze, and understand how the beliefs and patterns were put into place. Naturally so, because that’s the part your mind can help you with. Since you’ve been so identified with the mind and don’t have a different sense of yourself, that’s where you’ll hang out – thinking you’re doing the work.
In this episode of the Uncover YOU podcast, Tina comes across a part that feels overwhelmed with the work it thinks is needed to heal. When I guide Tina into shifting out of the identification of this part, things start to shift. She also realizes that “doing the work” is not at all what this part thinks it is. That showing up with presence and love doesn’t require much effort at all.
